When Should I Get Another Dog After Mine Died?
There is no correct number of weeks or months.
Some people want another dog very quickly because the silence at home is unbearable.
Others cannot imagine it for years.
Neither reaction tells you how much you loved the dog who died.
A more useful question may be:
Am I looking for another dog, or am I trying to get the same dog back?
A new animal will have different habits. Different fears. Different ways of showing affection.
If every difference feels like a failure, you may need more time.
But you do not need to reach a point where you never miss your old dog.
That point may never come.
You can still love a new animal while carrying an old relationship with you.
The new dog does not inherit your old dog’s place.
They make a different place.
If you are unsure, visit a shelter, spend time with a friend’s pet, or simply let yourself browse without turning the feeling into a decision.
Wanting another dog is not a betrayal.
And not being ready is not a failure.
There is no deadline on either choice.
